Spring Equals Pancake Fly-ins and Sun-n-Fun
Spring is nearly upon us which means it's time for Fly-ins and Sun-n-Fun. The local chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and Civil Air Patrol (CAP) will host a pancake fly-in at AHN on Saturday April 14th from 8:30am to 1:30pm at the Fire Fly hangar. All persons interested in flying are invited to attend. Who knows? You may be interested in joining the local EAA or CAP. Also the Sun-n-Fun fly-in is scheduled for April 17th - 23rd. Airport Open House Planned - As part of the festivities being planned to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Ben T. Epps first flight in Athens GA, the airport will host an Open House and Air Show. The Open house has been scheduled for Saturday, October 20, 2007 from 10:00am - 3:00pm. As part of the festivities the GA Aviation - 100 Years of Flight Committee will donate a bust of Ben Epps to be placed in the Athens Flight Center along with a Historical Marker to be placed in downtown Athens at the site of Ben Epps Bicycle shop where he built his first aircraft. (See the Open House page for more information.)Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Local Chapter Formed - A local group of experimental and recreational aircraft enthusiasts have organized an Athens chapter of the EAA. The chapter meets on the 2nd Saturday of each month at the Athens Flight Center Conference Room. Any person with an interest in aviation is invited to attend. Airport Fire Fighters Attend Classes in Savannah - Airport Fire Fighters are scheduled to attend Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting classes at the Savannah International Airport. The classes will be taught in conjunction with the ARMY Air National Guard and will utilize an aircraft burn simulator. This training is in addition to the annual and recurrent training that the Airport Fire Fighters conduct with the ACC Fire Department and State of GA Fire Academy. |
