Athens Airport Update
Spring 2003

When's the Airshow?

Many people have been asking about this year's airshow. Because of tightened security at commercial airports, a decision was made to not have a show this year. We hope to bring the airshow committee back together in the near future to start planning a show for 2004. If you would like to see a show this year, I would suggest The Great Georgia Airshow in Peachtree City. It will be held September 6th and 7th and you can get information from their website at www.wingsoverdixie.org.

Airport Projects Update - Check NOTAMS before flying.

New 60' x 60' hangar
  • Runway 9/27 Rejuvenation - Construction on this project is 100% complete. New runway paint, signs, an emergency generator and taxiway/ramp pavings have been done.
  • General Aviation Terminal - Site prep has started and we plan to start construction on the building this summer. Stop by the operations office to see the floor plans and elevations of this building.
  • Water and Sanitary Sewer Lines - This project is moving along well. The lines have been installed in the area of the future commercial terminal (south of runway 9/27) and they are now working on the north side of the runway. We will be cutting through the middle of the ramp soon, so watch for construction equipment.
  • Terminal Re-roof - This project has been approved by the ACC Commission and is currently in the design phase. Plans are to completely re-roof the current commercial terminal.
  • T Hangars - Now that we have had some good weather, the hangar project is progressing well. One of the 60 x 60 hangars is up and the row of 19 t-hangars is now being assembled. This project should be complete within the next few weeks.
  • Entrance Road and New Fire Station - These projects have been approved by ACC and are in the pre-design phases. We hope to have these underway sometime this summer/fall.
